Workshop: Technological tools to overcome language barriers in mental health care

27.-30.01.2025 - Geneva, Switzerland

💬 With our MiM2M project, we strive to ensure that language becomes less of a barrier to quality mental health care. One increasingly discussed way to overcome language barriers is the use of technological tools, such as translation apps.

📱 From 27 to 30 January, we were invited by the wonderful Fondation Brocher in Switzerland to conduct a workshop on how technology can facilitate communication in mental healthcare when service providers and users do not sufficiently speak the same language.

🎤 A key highlight was the insightful talk by Prof Constantin Orasan, an expert in language and translation technologies at the University of Surrey. He shared his extensive knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine translation/interpreting, sparking insightful discussions within our team on the potential of generative AI to overcome language barriers in mental healthcare.

🌻 A huge thank you to the Fondation Brocher for their incredible hospitality. The exchange of ideas over these three days has been truly inspiring and transformative!
